What you can fix in seconds
(0010,0010) Wrong patient name Imported study with a typo in PatientName before archiving.
(0008,0020) Incorrect study date Device clock reset after a power outage corrupted StudyDate.
(0008,0050) Wrong accession number Billing reconciliation requires matching AccessionNumber to the worklist.
(0008,0060) Misidentified modality Secondary capture stored as SC instead of the original modality.
(0010,0020) Mismatched patient ID MRN mismatch between the scanner and the EMR import.
(0008,0080) Institution name Research dataset needs institution removed before publication.
How it works
Drag and drop or browse to select a single DICOM file. Everything from this point runs locally — no network activity.
All metadata tags are listed with their DICOM keyword and VR. Click any editable field and type the new value. Changes are highlighted in green.
Click "Download edited .dcm" to save the modified file. Pixel data is untouched — only the metadata you changed is different.
Editable vs read-only tags
DICOM VR (Value Representation) defines the type of each tag. Text and numeric VRs are fully editable. Binary payloads and sequence containers are displayed but protected from accidental corruption.

Common questions
Is it safe to use with real patient data?
Yes. Every file is parsed and modified entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly. Nothing is sent to a server. You can verify this with DevTools → Network: no outbound request carries your file bytes.
Will editing tags affect the image?
No. Pixel data (7FE0,0010) is always read-only in this editor. Only metadata fields (patient info, study context, UIDs, acquisition parameters) can be changed.
Can I edit tags in multiple files at once?
Batch editing across an entire study (multiple .dcm files) is a Pro feature. Single-file editing is free with no limits.
What is a VR (Value Representation)?
VR is DICOM's type system for tag values. DA (Date) stores dates as YYYYMMDD, CS (Code String) holds controlled vocabulary terms, PN (Person Name) uses caret-separated name components. The editor shows each tag's VR so you know what format is expected.
Why are some tags shown as read-only?
Binary VRs (OB, OW, OD, UN) contain raw byte data like compressed thumbnails or lookup tables — editing them as text would corrupt the file. Sequence tags (SQ) hold nested datasets and cannot be edited inline. Pixel data is always protected.
